This course aims to equip counsellors and others in helping professions with the knowledge needed to recognize substances that can be abused and misused including common symptoms of use and short and long-term consequences associated with different patterns of use.

- Employ techniques and strategies to engage effectively with individuals who may be struggling with substance misuse.
- Understand the ethical considerations when working with individuals struggling with substance misuse.
- Communicate effectively about substance misuse and its consequences to clients, their families, and other professionals.
- Evaluate resources and interventions to support individuals and their families dealing with substance misuse.

Course Prerequisites:
- Completion or current enrolment in a counselling program or current employment is in a helping profession preferred but not required.
Learning Objectives:
- The main goal of this course is to help students recognize substances which can be abused and mis-used.
Method of Student Evaluation:
- To receive a certificate, students need to score 80% on the Quiz. They can retake the quiz as many times as needed within their enrollment period.
